2017 Hyundai Accent vs. 2017 Honda Fit

In the past, cars from the Pacific Rim were often given less considerations, which is why discerning car buyers avoided them. Over time, the manufacturers have updated their manufacturing techniques and now produce extremely impressive vehicles. In fact, many of these cars are so popular in the country today. If you are in the market for a hatchback, you might have come across two popular models – 2017 Hyundai Accent and the 2017 Honda Fit. The Hyundai Accent has features that make it more appealing than the Honda in many ways; let’s find out why:

Design & Style

Both the Honda and the Hyundai are five door hatchbacks, designed with a modest amount of creases to make them look more rounded rather than boxy. The Hyundai Accent manages to pull this off better, as it has a more distinctive and unique look. There are very few cars out there that could be mistaken for a Hyundai Accent hatchback, so you also get a degree of uniqueness when you buy one.

Being a Japanese vehicle, the Honda Fit has an interior that is designed to be purely functional and robust. It has the typical range of equipment you would find in cars these days including a reversing camera, air conditioning and airbags for both the driver and passenger. The Hyundai Accent goes a step further, offering a more luxurious interior as well as more comfortable seats. This makes it the perfect car for long distance driving.

Being hatchbacks, you get a decent amount of storage space as well. Both vehicles feature rear seats that can be folded down to increase trunk space. In this regard, the Hyundai is more practical, in that the seats are easier to fold and you end up with slightly more cargo space compared to the Honda Fit.

Technology & Safety

Both vehicles come with many technological and safety features as you would expect from a modern car. These include antilock braking systems, driver and passenger airbags and side curtain airbags. However, the Hyundai Accent has more to offer even in the most basic form.

Some of the standard features available in the Hyundai but not in the Honda include dynamic steering, height-adjustable restraints, and rear airbags. The Hyundai also features a 4-speaker music system with USB and AUX jack connectivity. The Hyundai has an AM/FM radio with a CD player which can read data that has been written to the CD in MP3 format, a feature missing in the Honda.

The Honda ships with a 1.5 liter inline-4 engine with VVT. This produces 130 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and generates 114 ft lb or torque at 4600rpm. The 2017 Hyundai Accent ships with 1.6 liter inline-4 engine with VVT, producing 137 hp and 123 ft lb or torque at 4850 rpm. This is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission which includes a shifter on the floor, providing smooth gear changes. Electronic traction control is also available on the Hyundai Accent.

As you can see, the Hyundai produces more power and torque compared to the Honda despite both vehicles being in the same class. Combine this with the fact that the Hyundai is 50 pounds lighter than the Honda, and it becomes clear why the Hyundai is faster and sharper to drive compared to the Honda.

The Bottom Line

On the surface, the 2017 Hyundai Accent and the 2017 Honda Fit might look similar by many accounts, so some people consider them to be the same car with different badges. However, the Hyundai has much more to offer compared to the Honda, and is the better of the two.
