2017 Hyundai Elantra vs. 2017 Mazda 3

When shopping for a high-quality sedan, car enthusiasts will definitely come across the 2017 Hyundai Elantra and the 2017 Mazda 3. While both vehicles might seem to be more or less similar, the fact of the matter is that both of them are vastly different. There are many things that make the Hyundai Elantra much better than the Mazda 3. Some of these are discussed below.

Design & Style

The 2017 Mazda 3 is a sedan that has graceful lines and a generally pleasing façade. The 2017 Hyundai Elantra, however, looks even more pleasing next to the Mazda. The Hyudai’s front end has a particularly cleaner look compared to the Mazda. The lack of as many lines and bulges makes the Hyundai have a more elegant look.

The same can be said of the interior. The Mazda 3 has a generally clean and well-laid-out interior, but it does not have the luxurious feel that the Hyundai has. The Hyundai Elantra offers more space in terms of head room and leg room, and also has better amenities including a higher-quality audio system. The Hyundai’s dashboard is also less cluttered compared to the Mazda’s.

Technology & Safety

The Mazda 3 ships with an impressive list of technological and safety features. These include a 7-inch color touch screen display, satellite navigation, a voice activated navigation system and Bluetooth capability. Safety features include traction control, dynamic stability control, a wide angle rear-view camera, smart city brake support and rear cross traffic alert systems.

The Hyundai, on the other hand, tops this with a vehicle that ships with all of the above, with the addition of Android Auto, a sound expanding audio system, smart cruise control and a high-quality touchscreen display system. In addition to the basic safety features, the Hyundai also provides advanced safety systems including blind spot detection, a rear-view camera with dynamic guide lines, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and a host of other smart safety systems. Overall, Hyundai is more technologically advanced and safer compared to the Mazda 3.

Both vehicles have 2-liter straight-4 engines that are normally aspirated. The base Mazda produces 18 more horsepower compared to the Hyundai, but this does not affect straight line performance by much. The Hyundai has better suspension and driver aids such as traction control which make it faster when turning compared to the Mazda. It’s also lighter, and so needs less power than the Mazda 3. However, if you need more power, you can choose a Hyundai Elantra trim with a larger engine capacity.

The Bottom Line

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra is demonstrably a much better vehicle compared to the 2017 Mazda 3 in more ways than one. By betting on the Hyundai, you are unlikely to regret this choice later on.
