2018 Hyundai Ioniq vs. 2018 Nissan Leaf

Since the inception of electrics into the market, a whole new shift in car trading has taken place even in Springfield Pennsylvania. Many manufacturers like Volkswagen, BMW, Ford, Nissan Honda and Hyundai have come up with their own versions of electric autos. The rush now is to manufacture an electric powered auto that is stylish and powerful, yet offering the speed that many car owners are already accustomed to.

Nissan has of late introduced the 2018 Nissan Leaf, and Hyundai has as well opened its market to the 2018 Hyundai Ioniq. Let us find out why many buyers opt for Hyundai over Nissan.

Design & Style

By and large, the market for electric cars is now shifting towards an auto that is not just electric, but portrays a picture of a normal car. Hyundai scores high in electrics when it comes to this. The 2018 Ioniq is a hatchback that steals a number of its features from the more expensive Elantra with a high tail, in contrast with the 2018 Leaf. You will hardly find a hybrid that looks like a normal car, and Hyundai has managed to do exactly that with the Ioniq.

Let us talk about their interiors: While the Leaf and the Ioniq both score quite high with respect to interior, a great contrast is seen when the focus is placed on their cockpit gadgets. The Leaf is endowed with a lustrous, highly-styled dashboard compared to the relatively conventional dashboard found on many Hyundais. It takes a whole lot of learning and adoption with the Nissan, in comparison to the Hyundai. Someone can get in and take off without too much orientation.

Technology & Safety

Safety features are a make or break for all cars that are being scrutinized for comparison. While airbags on all sides of the car are common in all new cars, the tech features that will show superiority include night vision, rollover protection equipment, traction control and blind spot monitoring.

Both cars are well endowed with these features. The 2018 Hyundai Ioniq however is uniquely positioned with an upgraded lane-departure and forward collision warning on virtually all 2018 Ioniqs.

Hybrid car performance largely depends on the kind of battery that has been installed, and its use in transmitting and retaining power over a measured distance. The 2018 Leaf comes packed with a 30kWh battery, one of the most powerful of its competitors. However, this does no major change to the power output (107-hp, 187lb-ft of torque). It however does a number on the mileage when fully packed (107miles).

This however is no match for the 2018 Ioniq electric that is able to sustain a 28kWh pack fully charged for 124 miles.

The Bottom Line

It is clear that the 2018 version of the Hyundai Ioniq is a much better contender to the Nissan Leaf. While a glimpse of the exterior features the Leaf would make it easily passed for an electric auto, you could hardly tell if the Hyundai Ioniq is a full combustion or an electric car. This makes the hybrid’s market value quite competitive.
