2021 Hyundai Kona vs. 2021 Mazda CX-30

Finishing among the top subcompact SUVs for this generation, the 2021 Hyundai Kona is one crossover that is praised even more for having an upscale cabin. It also has a user-friendly infotainment setup. A Night Edition trim is included in its lineup.

As for the 2021 Mazda CX-30, expect a comfortable ride with a wide-open cargo space. This also boasts of a lovely interior with a deft handling. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also newly standard to this ride.

Design & Style

The 2021 Hyundai Kona is blessed with a lovely cabin that has been constructed using quality materials. There is ample amount of legroom and headroom inside, which makes it a comfortable choice for taller occupants. The cargo space is just enough to carry the suitcases of its passengers. It can expand to about 46 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded.

When it comes to the 2021 CX-30, expect lesser room for cargo. This one only holds up to 20.2 cubic feet of your belongings. The rear seats in the ride cannot be folded to provide better trunk capacity. Seating up to five people, the ride is cozy and airy up front. However, it has some minor outward visibility issues. Taller passengers will wish there is more room to move around too. Materials are excellent for this ride, though.

Technology & Safety

The 2021 Hyundai Kona was built to have a comprehensible infotainment setup. This is equipped with a seven-inch touch screen that has buttons and physical controls that are easily accessible by the driver. It configures Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and has a remote keyless entry, two USB ports, a Bluetooth interface, and six speakers. Among its advanced safety features are a rearview camera, lane keep assist, driver drowsiness monitoring, and forward collision warning.

The 2021 CX-30 uses a rotary controller for its center console. This has a seven-inch digital instrument cluster which is paired with an 8.8-inch infotainment display. The overall setup is dated when compared to its rivals, the Kona included. It has a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD radio, eight speakers, two USB ports, and voice recognition. Safety wise, it has forward collision monitoring, lane keep assist, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a rearview camera.

The 2021 Kona boosts a total of 147 horsepower for its base four-cylinder engine. It has a turbo-four version that is potent enough to produce 175 horsepower.  The CX-30, meanwhile, can generate up to 186 horsepower for the base engine. It takes some coaxing though to get that desirable power when you step on its brakes.

The Bottom Line

Perfect for cruising during the weekends, and attending to errands during weekdays, the 2021 Hyundai Kona is indeed one of those desirable rides that you want to take home with you. This is perfect for your entire family of five.
