2022 Hyundai Accent vs. 2022 Chevrolet Malibu

The 2022 Hyundai Accent is a compact car which is perfect for urban areas and has outstanding value with superb gas mileage. But how does it compare to the 2022 Chevrolet Malibu, a car which has received praise for its attractive appearance, turbo power and great infotainment?

Design & Style

The Malibu is a moderately sized sedan with front wheel drive. The latest edition adds 2 fresh gray hues for its color palette, and its cabin is roomy enough to hold 4 adults. They will be presented with an eight inch touch display that has lots of features and is simple to use. The exterior is conservative with sleek and attractive edges while the cabin has controls which are clearly marked. The trim is soft and the seats feel comfortable.

The Hyundai Accent also comes in the form of a sedan with 4 doors. A 6 sided grille can be seen in front, which is flanked by LEDs with boomerang headlights in back. Its cabin will welcome passengers with lots of space, cloth trim that looks and feel good, and a seven inch touch display.

Technology & Safety

The Hyundai Accent is well designed to protect its passengers, especially when purchased with Limited trim since this edition includes emergency automated brakes. This combined with the exceptional outward vision has resulted in the car receiving a 4 star NHTSA rating, which is outstanding for a car of its class. Amenities within its interior include Bluetooth support, air conditioning, cruise control and the option of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

The Chevrolet Malibu is equipped with the same safety features as the Hyundai and also received a 4 star rating. However, the difference is that its side impact tests were not great and the IIHS gave it a “moderate” score due to the inadequate frontal overlap small impact test. Amenities within its cabin include heated and powered seats in front with air conditioning.

Performance

The Chevrolet Malibu comes with a turbo 4, 1.5 liter engine that can generate 160 horsepower. It uses a transmission which is continuously variable that is capable of simulating authentic gear shifts. Those that purchase the Hyundai Accent will get an inline 4, 1.6 liter engine that can generate up to 120 horsepower, and it also uses a transmission that is continuously variable.

The Bottom Line

Though the Chevrolet Malibu excels when it comes to horsepower, the Hyundai Accent has superior fuel economy. Furthermore, the Malibu falls short in a critical area, which is safety. Those who have test driven it have also complained about the powertrain which they described as being noisy, and this combined with the fact that the Malibu is boring to drive with Chevrolet no longer offering a hatchback option makes the Hyundai Accent the winner.
