2022 Hyundai Santa Fe vs. 2022 Ford Escape

The 2022 Ford Escape is a smooth and curvy SUV that is well proportioned with an excellent safety record. But is it good enough to beat the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe, an SUV which has received acclaim for its potent and highly efficient power train, hybrid option and upgraded transmission?

Design & Style

The Santa Fe is handsome both inside and out. The exterior is covered in elegant cut lines with curves that have been stamped in. The grille is split with panels that are textured and bracketed by the headlights. Within the cabin passengers will be presented with a ten inch touch display and an electronic gear shifter can be seen near the console.

The Escape is stunning and one of the best looking SUVs Ford has produced in years. It has gentle lines which stretch across the exterior and the cabin is covered in classy black trim with a touchscreen and leather seats with wood grain surfaces. It can seat four passengers and the seats offer lots of cushioning with about thirty seven inches reserved for legroom.

Technology & Safety

The NHTSA has awarded the Ford Escape a 5 star rating, but only 4 stars for its rollover protection. The IIHS was also impressed, though its headlights were given a marginal rating. Its protective countermeasures include cruise control that is adaptive, a camera with surround view, automated emergency brakes and parking assistance. Luxuries within its cabin include an eight in touch display, the option of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, panoramic sunroof, and power tailgate.

The IIHS loved the Hyundai Santa Fe so much that is bestowed the prestigious Top Safety Pick award, and unlike the Ford Escape, its headlights were given a good rather than marginal rating. It also received a perfect score from the NHTSA and is equipped with all the safety gear found in the Escape, including parking sensors, the ability to monitor blind spots, a camera with surround view and emergency automatic brakes. Its cabin luxuries include a twelve speaker audio system from Harmon Kardon, panoramic sunroof, ten inch touch display, cooled/heated seats, satellite radio and remote start.

Performance

Those that purchase the Hyundai Santa Fe can get a turbo 4, 2.5 liter engine that can generate an impressive 277 horsepower with 311 pounds of torque. It can tow up to 3,500 pounds and provides full weather traction.  Those that purchase the Ford Escape can get a turbo 4, 2 liter engine that can generate 250 horsepower that enables it to accelerate from zero to sixty in approximately 7 seconds.

The Bottom Line

Everything the Ford Escape does well, the Hyundai does better. The Santa Fe has superior horsepower, a bigger touch screen and better safety credentials, and this combined with the Ford Escape’s cheap cabin materials and shortened seat cushions make Hyundai the winner.
