For most people looking to buy a new car, the most important thing they need from it is space. To fit as many items as possible in the vehicle without overloading it, vehicle manufacturers make their car interiors roomy and spacious. The 2021 Kia Forte has almost 60 cubic feet of interior space with its five-passenger layout. That same layout in the 2022 Hyundai Veloster offers 69 cubic feet of interior space with an added third-row seat that extends its interior space to accommodate up to seven passengers.
Design & Style
If you’re looking for a sporty yet efficient hatchback, it doesn’t get much better than the 2022 Hyundai Veloster. There isn’t a car in its class that can beat it in terms of performance-to-efficiency ratio! The exhaust note alone will turn heads—there isn’t a gas-guzzler on wheels that can match its power and acceleration numbers. Don’t be surprised if your friends call you later to ask what you drove today.
The interior of both cars is what you’d expect for a low- to mid-range vehicle. They look modern and attractive, with nice finishes on plastics and rubber, with high-quality materials throughout most of the cabin. Both come standard with Bluetooth connectivity, which is great to see in a sub-$10k price point that they both fall into. It was easy to connect my phone to both systems quickly. However, I would have liked Apple CarPlay or Android Auto support for easier navigation between my music library and my contacts list (Android Auto is available as an option for each manufacturer).
Technology & Safety
The 2022 Hyundai Veloster uses an all-new suite of safety systems and features: lane keep assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and more. The 2021 Kia Forte does not offer a collision warning system or other active safety systems such as automatic emergency braking that could help protect it from collisions and rollovers. Instead, its passive safety equipment includes six airbags (dual front, front side, and full-length side curtain) as well as active head restraints to mitigate whiplash injuries in a rear collision.
The 2022 Hyundai Veloster has a 1.6L 128 hp 4-cylinder engine, while the 2021 Kia Forte comes with a 1.8L 179 hp 4-cylinder engine. The 2021 Forte wins when it comes to horsepower, but that doesn’t necessarily make it better than its competitor! The 2022 Veloster delivers 11 more mpg in highway travel, which means your trip will be less expensive in terms of fuel costs as well as less time on your road trip—making its smaller engine more desirable for those who value efficiency. Overpower and performance on their road trips!
The Bottom Line
How will your driving life change with a 2022 Hyundai Veloster? How about a 2021 Kia Forte? If you have spent time shopping for an upgrade or downsize, you know that both of these popular models have stood out as potential replacements to older, used models. Both can stand out from their competitors based on power, efficiency, and exterior aesthetics – but which is right for you? The 2022 Hyundai Veloster is always ahead.
